de boer (Los Angeles) is pleased to present Mental Ecologies. The exhibition brings together six artists whose works navigate the unstable terrain where architecture, perception, memory, and imagined futures collide. The exhibition includes work by Kerry Cottle, Kirsten Deirup, Marc Horowitz, Madison Warp, Kat Lowish, and Suyi Xu.
The exhibition treats the works as a pseudo architecture—rooms, facades, and landscapes that double as metaphors for interior states. The artists in Mental Ecologies work through nostalgia, utopian longing, and dystopian projection. The subjects, environments, and objects depicted appear not simply as direct translations, but as vessels of personal memory, cultural residue, and speculative imagination.
By intertwining personal reflection with perception, the works on view construct “mental environments” that are at once intimate and social, grounded and hallucinatory. This blending of inner and outer landscapes points to the way our interior lives are shaped by the infrastructures we inherit and the futures we fear or desire.
