de boer (Antwerpen) is pleased to present Handgemaakt in Amerika, a group exhibition including works by Teresa Baker, Layo Bright, Salvador Dominguez, Rema Ghuloum, Matthew Kirk, Erick Medel, Azikiwe Mohammed, and Esteban Ramón Pérez. A coinciding group exhibition called Handmade in Belgium at the gallery's Los Angeles location includes works by Belgian-based artists Karsten Krogh-Hansen, Dóra Benyó, Sam Druant, Joke Hansen, and Adelheid de Witte.

Handgemaakt in Amerika brings together eight US-based artists who engage abstraction not as a stylistic end, but as a methodology for navigating cultural memory, spatial poetics, and lived identity. Their work forms a vital conversation between material practice and iconography—personal and political, and handmade. The title, Handgemaakt in Amerika ("Handmade in America"), gestures toward this tension between the artisanal and the ideological, acknowledging the deeply embodied labor of crafting new narratives from inherited ones.

Together, these artists map a deeply felt terrain—where abstraction is never neutral, and where form is always entangled with identity, ancestry, and the contradictions of place. In Handgemaakt in Amerika, “handmade” becomes an act of resilience, a tool for revision, and a shared language of transformation.
